Guerra Michele

Aged forty-four, married with two children, he is a full professor at the University of Parma.

He teaches Film Theory, History and Criticism of Cinema, and Theories and Techniques of Cinema and Audiovisual Media at the University of Parma; he chaired the degree programme in Contemporary Communication and Media for the Creative Industries and served as Deputy Head of the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Enterprises, posts from which he resigned following his appointment as Councillor for Culture for the City of Parma.

From 2017 to June 2022, he served as Councillor for Culture for the City of Parma, leading the ‘Parma – Italian Capital of Culture 2020–21’ project, and was President of GAER (Young Artists of Emilia-Romagna).

He is the author of various books and essays on film theory, Italian cinema and American cinema; together with Vittorio Gallese, he co-authored  Lo  schermo empatico. Cinema e neuroscienze (Raffaello Cortina, 2015), which received the Limina Prize for Best Italian Book on Film Studies. His other works include Il limite dello sguardo.

Beyond the Boundaries of Images’ (Raffaello Cortina, 2020) and  Culture of Film: Film Criticism and Italian Society (Il Mulino, 2020). He sits on the editorial and scientific boards of several academic journals and contributes to Domenica del Sole 24 Or*.

In connection with his research on cinema and cognitive neuroscience, he was awarded a fellowship at the Centre for Advanced Studies in the Behavioural Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University, USA.
