Gordeeva Katerina

Katerina Vladimirovna Gordeeva (born March 23, 1977, in Rostov-on-Don) is a Russian journalist, documentary filmmaker, and author, best known for her work with the Russian television channel NTV from 2003 to 2012. She has directed and released numerous documentaries focusing on social, family, and health-related issues. Her first documentary, Ruble’s Wives, was released in 2005.
Raised in Rostov-on-Don, Gordeeva had a strong interest in medicine from an early age and worked as a nurse while young. However, her career shifted toward journalism after studying at Rostov State University and later graduating in Journalism from Moscow State University in 1999.
Her journalistic career began in 1995 when she worked as an editor and correspondent for the television program Theme/Тема. She went on to write for several TV programs, including Originally from Childhood on NTV, and later worked as a parliamentary correspondent for the show Day Seven. In 2001, she joined the BBC Russian Service under the pseudonym Maria Rasskazova.
In 2002, she moved to TVS, but when the channel shut down in 2003, she transitioned to NTV, where she worked until 2006. Her documentary career took off in 2005 with Ruble’s Wives, and she continued producing films exploring Russian family life and society.
In 2023, she published a book titled Beyond the Threshold of Pain (Oltre la soglia del dolore, 21lettere, 2024), based on testimonies of witnesses to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since September 2020, she has hosted the YouTube talk show Tell Gordeeva, initially in collaboration with Meduza. She continued the program independently after Meduza was labeled a “foreign agent.” In 2022, Gordeeva herself was also designated as a “foreign agent.” The show continued until February 2024, when one of the guests was arrested.
Among her most notable guests were Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dmitry Muratov, Natalia Poklonskaya, and Grigory Yudin. In 2022, she was awarded the Anna Politkovskaya Prize.
