Garff Joakim

Joakim Garff (London, 1960) is a theologian, cultural historian and one of the world’s leading scholars of Søren Kierkegaard.

He is an Associate Professor and former director of the Søren Kierkegaard Research Centre at the University of Copenhagen, where he served as co-editor of the 55-volume critical edition of the Danish philosopher’s complete works. From 1992 to 1999, he served as president of the Danish Kierkegaard Society. His areas of research include Kierkegaardian studies, hermeneutics, aesthetics, biography and the culture of the Danish Golden Age.

He is the author of the monumental Søren Kierkegaard. A Biography (2005), which has been translated into numerous languages and is regarded as the definitive work on the philosopher’s life, as well as numerous essays and books devoted to Kierkegaard and the formation of personal identity.
