Stefano Forte

Stefano Forte has been a full professor of theoretical physics at the University of Milan since January 2003. He studied at MIT, was a postdoctoral researcher at Saclay, and a CERN fellow. From 1990 to 2002, he was a staff physicist at INFN in Torino and Rome. He has held international academic positions, including visiting professor in Barcelona and visiting fellow in Edinburgh. He is currently a scientific associate at the Higgs Centre in Edinburgh and, since October 2023, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Physics G.

His research focuses on the theory of strong interactions and perturbative QCD, with a strong interest in LHC physics, particularly the properties of the Higgs boson. He has worked on resummation and, as spokesperson of the NNPDF collaboration, was a pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence methods in theoretical particle physics for determining parton distribution functions (PDFs).

In 2017, he received an ERC Advanced Grant that funded the N3PDF project (2018–2023), aimed at developing new AI methods for precision physics of the Standard Model. He has also worked on aspects of quantum field theory, such as anomalies and fractional statistics, and has taught courses in Quantum Physics and Theory of Fundamental Interactions.
