Innocente Figini

An ophthalmologist, he is Head of Ophthalmic Surgery at the Valduce Hospital in Como. His encounter with Don Giussani marked a turning point in his life. In 1986, together with his wife Marina and his brother’s family – Erasmo and Serena – they took in an HIV-positive child. It was the beginning of a ‘story of communion’, as Don Giussani put it. Today, the Cometa Association involves over 70 families open to the experience of foster care.

Since 1987, he has conceived and established, through over 40 volunteer missions, an eye microsurgery centre in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh at a PIME mission, where around 1,500 cataract operations are performed each year.
