Stefania Craxi

Stefania Craxi was born in Milan on 25 October 1960 and is the daughter of the former Prime Minister Bettino Craxi (1934–2000). Married to Marco Bassetti and the mother of three children, she enjoyed a successful career as a television producer and established entrepreneur in the media sector, a career she left in 2000 following her father’s death in Hammamet.
In May of that same year, she founded the ‘Bettino Craxi Foundation’, a historical and scientific institute dedicated to research and cultural promotion in the fields of history, politics and socio-economic sciences through conferences, exhibitions, publications and collaborations with national and international institutions.
She served as President of the Foundation until May 2006; in the same year, she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies as a member of Forza Italia, and was subsequently re-elected for a second term. In 2008, she served as Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (with responsibility for the Mediterranean and Asia) in the fourth Berlusconi government, characterised by a constant commitment to peace, intercultural dialogue and support for the Italian business community abroad.
She has always been committed to ensuring that the justice system safeguards citizens’ rights and has championed Italy’s leading role in the Mediterranean and in Europe; she is a keen observer of international geopolitical dynamics.
She is a Senator of the Republic for Forza Italia; she served as Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence (a role she held until March 2026) and, since 26 March 2026, has held the post of Leader of the Forza Italia Group in the Senate.
