Who we are
Colleoni Matteo

Matteo Colleoni is Full Professor of Environmental and Territorial Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Social Research at the University of Milano-Bicocca. He also serves as Rector’s Delegate for Sustainability and Mobility Manager.
He graduated with honors in Political Science in 1994 and earned a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Research in 2003 (University of Trento). He also holds a Master’s in Time Policies and Sustainable Mobility from the Politecnico di Milano (2006).
Academic career:
– 2003–2006: Postdoctoral fellow at Bicocca.
– 2006–2010: Researcher in Environmental and Territorial Sociology.
– 2010–2015: Associate Professor; since 2015, Full Professor.
He is President of the Tourism Sciences Degree Program and is active in the University Network for Sustainable Development.
Research and projects:
His work focuses on mobility, urban sustainability, time and livability. Recent publications cover 15-minute cities, active mobility, COVID‑19, and urban well-being. He is involved in projects related to Italy’s PNRR, EXPO 2025, and sustainable/responsible water use.
He teaches in Italy and abroad, has been a visiting professor in Grenoble, Brussels, and Shanghai, and coordinates modules in the interdisciplinary PhD program URBEUR in Urban Studies.
He has received national and international recognition and serves on editorial and scientific boards in the fields of mobility, urban policy, and sustainability.
