Full Professor of Microbiology and Virology at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and Director of the related laboratory since 2001. Ha has been the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery from 2010 to 2019 and he is currently Vice Rector of Teaching of the University.
Before working at San Raffaele he was Professor of Virology at the Ancona University, Professor of Microbiology and Virology at the Trieste University and in many Specialization Schools in the medical area.
He is the owner of 11 patents related to potential biological antiviral drugs, author of more than 350 publications and member of scientific committees for important national and international journals of the area.
He is founder partner and steering member of the Italian Society of Medical Virology (Società Italiana di Virologia Medica) and he has been the President from 2004 to 2008. He participates also in the American Society for Microbiology, of the United States – Israel Binational Science Foundation and in the National Commission against AIDS.
