Edmondo Cirielli

Edmondo Cirielli has been Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation since 15 December 2022, in the government led by Giorgia Meloni. Born in Nocera Inferiore (Salerno) on 22 May 1964, he is a Brigadier General in the Carabinieri on reserve duty.

He graduated with honours in Law from the University of Parma, in Political Science from the University of Salerno and in Internal and External Security Sciences from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. He attended the Nunziatella Military School in Naples, the Military Academy in Modena and the Carabinieri Officers’ School in Rome.

His political career began in the 1990s. In 1995, he was elected regional councillor for Campania for Alleanza Nazionale and in 2001 he entered the Chamber of Deputies, where he was subsequently elected Chair of the Defence Committee and Quaestor. From 2009 to 2012, he served as President of the Province of Salerno. In December 2012, he was one of the founders of Fratelli d’Italia.

Re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2013, 2018 and 2022, during the 19th Legislature he joined the Government as Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and, from December 2022, assumed the role of Deputy Minister.

In his role at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, he focuses in particular on development cooperation and relations with partner countries, with a special emphasis with a special emphasis on sustainable development, food security, Africa and international stability.
