Veronica Cantero Burroni

Born on 3 June 2002 in Buenos Aires (Argentina), she lives in Campana with her six siblings and parents. She is in her fifth year of secondary school at the Santo Tomás de Aquino Institute. She enjoys studying, particularly subjects such as literature, chemistry and biology. But what she loves most is writing and reading. “Reading and writing help me to understand and share in the happiness of the world around me,” she once said, adding that she admires the small details hidden within reality, which she uses as a starting point to turn them into stories.

Veronica has been writing since the age of seven. El sueño de Tomás, published in 2010, was her first novel, followed by Tomás enamorado (2011), Tomás forma familia (2012), and a collection of short stories in 2013 published under the title Cuentos raritos. Her latest novel is El ladron de sombras, published in Italian by Pagina under the title Il ladro di ombre. The book won the 2016 Elsa Morante Ragazzi Prize and was declared of legislative interest by the city council of Campana, where Veronica lives with her family.

In 2017, she was honoured by the Alpi Biennale with an award recognising people with disabilities who have distinguished themselves in activities of public interest.
