Matteo Bugamelli

Matteo Bugamelli is an Italian economist and currently serves as an Executive Director on the Board of the World Bank Group, representing Albania, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, San Marino and Timor-Leste. Since 2025, he has also served as Dean of the Board.
A graduate in Economics from the University of Bologna and holder of a PhD from Columbia University, he has over twenty years’ experience at the Bank of Italy, where he served as Director in the Department of Research and Statistical Analysis, coordinator of the regional research offices, and head of the Economic Structure and Labour Market Division. An Executive Director since November 2020, he has served as Chair of the Budget Committee and the Audit Committee.
As Dean, he coordinates the Board’s work and facilitates dialogue with the Chair and Management.
He is the author of numerous publications on international trade, productivity, competitiveness, migration and remittances from emigrants, as well as reports on Italy’s productive structure.
