Brugnaro Luigi

Father of 5 sons Valentina, Andrea, Piera Maria, Jacopo and Ettore, I was born in Mirano in 1961 son of Maria, elementary teacher and Ferruccio, worker, trade union leader and poet.
Graduated at Miranda’s Majorana High School, I took the academic degree in Architecture at Iuav of Venice with the highest marks.
I am the founder of Umana, a holding company of 20 companies active in the fields of services, manufacturing, construction, sports and agriculture. But Umana is also the name of the employment agency founded in 1997 and became a leader in HR industry with 126 branches in Italy, five offices in Brazil, 700 professionals and 12,000 people employed in the best Italian companies.
In 2006 I bought Reyer, the historic Venetian basketball company founded in 1872, which is the only case in all of Italy today, which militates in the championship with both the male and female teams. A project not only sporting but also social and cultural spread across the metropolitan area involving over 4,500 athletes from 23 companies in the youth sector.
In 2014, “for the contribution provided to Italian basketball” I was awarded the prestigious Reverberi Prize, basketball Oscar.
From 2009 to 2013, I was President of Confindustria Venezia, recruiting an active role in public debate on the future of our economic and social system.
I was also president of Assolavoro, the National Association of Employment Agencies; Member of the National Council and of the National Board of Confindustria, delegate to Veneto at Expo 2015 and chairman of the Expo Veneto Committee.
I was elected Mayor of Venice on June 14, 2015.
