Borghi Enrico

Born in 1967 in Premosello-Chiovenda, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, he is an Italian politician with extensive experience in local, national and European institutions. A graduate in Political Science from the University of Pavia, he has combined his political career with work as a freelance journalist and consultant, gaining expertise in the administrative and institutional sectors.

His public career began very early at local level: in 1995 he was elected mayor of Vogogna, a post he held for several terms until 2019. At the same time, he established himself as a leading figure in policies for mountain areas, becoming national president of UNCEM – a role he held from 2000 to 2018 – and vice-president of ANCI between 2011 and 2013. During these years, he was also heavily involved at European and international level, participating in the work of the Council of Europe, the Committee of the Regions and organisations dedicated to the development of mountain regions.

In 2013, he was elected to Parliament as a Member of Parliament and was re-elected for the following parliamentary term. Since 2022, he has been a Senator of the Republic, where he focuses in particular on foreign policy, defence and national security, serving on the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees and the Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic (COPASIR).
Having cut his political teeth in the Democratic Party, he joined Italia Viva in 2023, taking up the post of national vice-president of the party in 2025. In the same year, he was elected president of the Institute of European Democrats, a European think tank focused on issues of democratic reform.
