Anselmi Nicolò

His Excellency Mons. Nicolò Anselmi, born in Genoa on 9 May 1961, earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Università di Genova and a Baccalaureate in Theology from the Facoltà Teologica dell’Italia Settentrionale – Sezione di Genova. Ordained a priest on 9 May 1992, he has held numerous pastoral, educational, and institutional positions at diocesan, regional, and national levels.
Key positions include: Parochial Vicar of the Parish of Saints Peter and Bernard at La Foce (1992–1996), Head of the Youth Pastoral Service of the Archdiocese of Genoa (1993–2007), Diocesan Assistant for the Youth Sector of Azione Cattolica (1994–2001), and religion teacher at the Classical High School “Andrea Doria” (1994–2007). From 1997 to 2007, he served as Regional Head of Youth Ministry of the Ligurian Episcopal Conference, and from 2007 to 2012, he led the National Youth Pastoral Service.
Mons. Anselmi also served as Episcopal Vicar for University, Youth, and Sports Ministry; Director of the Offices of University and Youth Pastoral Care; Parish Priest of the Parish-Basilica of Santa Maria delle Vigne; and Canon of the Insigne Collegiata and Basilica Santa Maria delle Vigne. He has conducted formation activities at the Major Seminary of Genoa and collaborated with AGESCI Liguria.
On 23 January 2012, he was appointed Chaplain of His Holiness. On 10 January 2015, Pope Francis named him Auxiliary Bishop of Genoa, and he received episcopal ordination on 8 February 2015. He represented the CEI at the 2018 Youth Synod and serves as member and secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Family, Youth, and Life, in addition to being the regional bishop responsible for Youth Ministry and Vocations.
He was elected Bishop of Rimini on 17 November 2022 and took possession of the diocese on 22 January 2023.
Among his recent activities, Mons. Anselmi represents the Italian Episcopal Conference as delegate to the 2026 Holy Land Coordination pilgrimage in the Holy Land, visiting Jerusalem, Effetà, and Taybeh to support local Christian communities and promote dialogue and prayer for peace, reporting subsequently to the CEI General Assembly
