Amato Francesco

Director and documentarian, he started working behind the camera in Bologna, as a student of the Dams, where he produced documentaries and short films including “Figlio di penna” (winner of the Turin Film Festival, Visioni Italiane, in competition of Cannes in “La semaine De la critique “in 2002).
In 2006 he graduated from the Experimental Center of Cinematograph and began with the feature film “Ma che ci faccio qui! “: The first feature film produced by CSC with RaiCinema and distributed by Luce Institute. Shown in more than 20 countries, the film has won numerous grants and awards, and was nominated for the David Donatello and the Golden Globes as the best first work. In 2010 he was called by director Lucio Pellegrini to lead the second unit of the second season of “The High School” produced by Taodue. The second unit was shot for 12 weeks and covered scenes featuring all the actors in the series.
In 2011 he made “Cosimo and Nicole”, produced by Cattleya with which he won “Prospettive Italia” at the Rome Film Festival 2012, and other awards in Italy and abroad. Played by Riccardo Scamarcio and Clara Ponsot, the film includes the extraordinary participation of Afterhours, Marlene Kuntz, Verdena and Bud Spencer Blues Explosion in the concert scenes. The joyful tones of “Ma che ci faccio qui!” open up to deep questions about contemporaneity, the problems of a precarious generation, those of immigration and illegal work. After this experience he returned to the documentary world, directing the camera on three projects about food in Africa: co-directed by Stefano Scarafia, “The travel of Harenna Wild Forest Coffee” (2013, Ethiopia), “Pokot Ash Yogurt “(2013, Kenya) and” Couscous Island “(2014, Senegal). Slow Food products, the last two are screened at the Berlin Film Festival (respectively in the 2013 and 2014 editions). He made several video clips, including “Seduzione” by Marlene Kuntz in 2014, with whom he returned to collaborate after their participation in “Cosimo and Nicole”. The video sees the leader of the group Cristiano Godano together with Kasia Smutniak. In 2016 he wrote – with Francesco Bruni and Davide Lantieri – and directed “Lasciati andare”, produced by Cattleya and RaiCinema. The film is played by Toni Servillo, Carla Signoris, Veronica Echegui and Luca Marinelli. The film came out in theaters as number 1 in April 2017. It is still in theaters, and has grossed over 2 million euros. It has received nominations and awards for the Golden Ciak, the Silver Ribbons and the Golden Globes. It won the Golden Globe as Best Comedy of the Year. It is sold in more than 20 countries around the world, including USA, Canada, Israel, Spain, South America, Australia, China. Between films he teaches and collaborates with cinema schools such as Experimental Center of Cinematograph, Holden School, ITS Rossellini, Officine Mattoli.
