Amano Denchū

Denchū Amano is a Japanese Tendai Buddhist monk and an important scholar of liturgical chanting. Born in Kyoto in 1925, he graduated in historical studies from Otani University in 1949. He studied Tendai chanting with Nakanishi Genyu and Honda Genkyo. Denchū Amano is Reverend Abbot of the Jikko-in Temple in Ohara (Kyoto) and Rector of the Eizan Gakuin Academy; he is actively involved in planning, conducting and performing liturgical chanting in various locations in Japan and Europe.
