Aloi Antonio

Antonio Aloi was born in Catanzaro on 8 January 1944. At the age of 16, after reading the biography of Father Damiano of Molokai, apostle of the lepers, he decided to devote his life to the Missions. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery, specialising in General Surgery and Tropical and Subtropical Diseases. He married Raffaella Monticelli in 1971 and in the same year they left for Uganda. They have three children, Francesco, Ivan and Simone. They remained in Africa for 15 years, between Uganda and Tanzania. Upon his return to Italy, he worked for Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he managed health cooperation in the Middle East. For six years, he headed the Italian Cooperation Office in Jerusalem (at the height of the second Intifada). He is an honorary citizen of Bethlehem.
Since his retirement, he has continued his health cooperation activities, first in Iraqi Kurdistan and then in Sudan.
