Abate Marco

Professor Marco Abate, who holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, has a prestigious academic background and extensive experience in the field of higher education.

He began his career in 1989 as a researcher at the University of Rome Tor Vergata; he subsequently took on the role of associate professor in 1992 and, in 1994, became a full professor at the University of Ancona, before taking up his current position as full professor of Geometry at the University of Pisa in 2001. He has been a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and at many other international universities and research institutions.

During his career, he has held important positions at the University of Pisa, including Vice-Rector for Education, Chair of the Mathematics Study Programme Council, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Chair of the University Evaluation Committee. At the national level, he has led the Board of Presidents of Mathematics Study Programmes and chaired the Expert Group for the Evaluation of Mathematics and Computer Science for the 2011-2014 VQR (Research Quality Assessment). He has been Coordinator for the National University Council (CUN) of the Permanent Commission on Policies for the Evaluation, Quality and Internationalisation of University Education, was President of CEVS for the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System (ANVUR) and is a member of the Executive Board of the National Coordination of Italian University Evaluation Units (CoNVUI).

He has taught doctoral courses at international level (France, Great Britain, Spain, Germany and others) and has taught introductory courses in mathematical research in several third world countries (Libya, Nepal, Benin, Pakistan and others).

He is the author of numerous highly successful textbooks. In terms of research, Professor Abate has worked on numerous cutting-edge topics in contemporary mathematics, achieving results in complex analysis of multiple variables, geometric function theory, complex differential geometry and holomorphic dynamical systems. He is the author of scientific monographs and numerous scientific articles published in the world’s leading mathematics journals, and has been the local or national coordinator of PRIN, FIRB and INdAM research projects. Professor Abate is also actively involved in the popularisation of mathematics.
