Palumbo Carmela

A law graduate, Carmela Palumbo won the competitive examination for the post of administrative manager within the Ministry of Education in January 1998. Following posts at the Provincial Education Offices in Padua, Rovigo and Udine, from 2004 to 2011 she served as Director-General of the Regional Education Office for the Veneto and Chair of the Joint Committee for Equal Opportunities at the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR).
She subsequently held the post of Director-General for Educational Systems at the Ministry. Since 2022, she has been Head of the Department for the Education and Training System at the Ministry of Education and Merit, a position she was reappointed to in 2025. In this role, she oversees education policies, including innovation in educational systems, the training and development of school staff, careers guidance and educational policies. In 2025, she took part in the debate on the use of artificial intelligence in teaching, and in 2026 she outlined the changes to the school-leaving examination.
