Giampaolo Dianin

Msgr. Giampaolo Dianin was born in Teolo, in the Euganean Hills, on 29 October 1962. He began his formation in the seminaries of Tencarola and Padua (from 1981), serving in the parishes of Caltana and Mestrino. He was ordained a priest on 7 June 1987 in the Basilica of Saint Justina. He then studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome from 1987 to 1991, earning a PhD in Moral Theology.

After returning to the Diocese of Padua in 1991, he began teaching sexual and marital ethics, an activity he continues to this day. He has also taught fundamental moral theology and family pastoral care. After serving as assistant priest in Lozzo Atestino, in 1992 he was appointed Episcopal Delegate for Family Pastoral Care, also coordinating the corresponding commission for the Triveneto ecclesiastical region until 2001. From 2000 to 2008 he served as the national assistant of Catholic Action. From 2008 to 2011 he was spiritual assistant to the secular institute of the Missionaries of the Kingship of Christ.

Since 2009 he has been Rector of the Major Seminary of Padua. Between 2009 and 2018 he served as Episcopal Delegate for the Permanent Diaconate and, for two terms, as coordinator of the Triveneto Commission for Seminaries. He has actively participated in several diocesan bodies of Padua, including the Diocesan Pastoral Council and the Presbyteral Council. Since 2017 he has been an honorary canon of the Cathedral of Padua, and since 2019 a member of the College of Consultors. He is also part of the secretariat of the diocesan Synod.

Since 2021, Msgr. Giampaolo Dianin has been Bishop of the Diocese of Chioggia. His episcopal coat of arms recalls family pastoral care, the formation of priests, the Eucharist, the territory of the Diocese of Chioggia and the figure of Mary. His episcopal motto is taken from the Letter to the Ephesians (5:25): “Sicut et Christus dilexit ecclesiam” — “As Christ also loved the Church.”
