Giovanni Liverani

Giovanni Liverani

Born in 1964 in Udine and a graduate in Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, of which he is a distinguished alumnus, he has devoted his entire professional career to the insurance sector, distinguishing himself through strategic vision, innovation and international leadership.

His career with the Generali Group began in 1991 at the head office in Trieste. In 1993, he co-founded Genertel, Italy’s first online insurance company. At Genertel, Liverani held various positions, playing a crucial role in the development of sales, marketing and operations, and making a decisive contribution to the company’s success in the market. Since 2006, having returned to the parent company, his international profile has been strengthened by his appointment as Area Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He subsequently took on roles of increasing responsibility, eventually becoming CEO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and then, in 2015, CEO of Generali Deutschland AG, the second-largest insurance company in Germany and the Group’s largest geographical division outside Italy.

In this role, Liverani led an ambitious industrial revitalisation plan, characterised by a far-reaching financial, operational and commercial restructuring, consolidating Generali’s market position in Germany and significantly strengthening both its premium income and profitability. In 2022, in addition to his responsibilities in Germany, he also took on leadership of Central and Eastern Europe and subsequently of Austria and Switzerland.

On 1 June 2024, upon reaching the age of 60, Liverani stepped down from all operational roles within the Generali Group.

In December 2024, he was elected Chairman of ANIA, the Italian Association of Insurers, shortly after being appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Genertel.

Liverani is Vice-Chairman of FEBAF (Federation of Banks, Insurance and Finance) and a member of the Italian Committee for Corporate Governance.
