Mario Melazzini

He holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery, is a specialist in Haematology, and has a Master’s degree in Health Economics and Management. He has held various senior positions in clinical, scientific and institutional settings, in both the public and private sectors. He was Scientific Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICS Maugeri; Director of the Sondalo Hospital of the ASST Valtellina e Alto Lario; Chief Medical Officer of the ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda; Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director-General of AIFA; Regional Councillor for Health, Regional Councillor for Productive Activities, Research and Innovation, and Regional Councillor for Universities, Research and Open Innovation for the Lombardy Region. Chairman and member of Technical Health Committees and Commissions at the Ministry of Health. Member of the EMA Management Board, member of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) and member of the Board of Directors of the CNR. Adjunct Professor at the University of Pavia, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, teaching the module ‘The Disabled Patient’ as part of the ‘Golgi’ degree programme in Medicine and Surgery.
He was the founder and president of Arisla and national president of Aisla Onlus. He was also the founder of the Nemo Clinical Centre for research into and the care of people with neuromuscular diseases, and president of the Aurora Foundation for the Nemo Sud Clinical Centre in Messina.
The author of several scientific publications and books drawing on his experience as a doctor, researcher, administrator and patient, he was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2017.
