Anna Miotello

Anna Miotello, an associate astronomer at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Garching (Germany), conducts research into planet formation and provides support for the operational activities of the Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array (ALMA), following a PhD in Astronomy and Astrochemistry at the Leiden Observatory (Netherlands) and an ESO Fellowship in Garching.

Her research focuses on characterising the global physical and chemical properties of so-called protoplanetary discs, using sum-mm band emission from simple molecules present in these discs. He is currently co-PI of the ALMA Large Programme DEC/O, which aims to use astrochemistry as a tool to link the observed population of exoplanets to their origins – a large sample of 80 protoplanetary discs observed by ALMA – in order to define the planet formation process more precisely
