Gambino Gabriella

Appointed in 2017 by Pope Francis as Under-Secretary of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life, and reappointed in 2022, she is responsible for matters concerning life, marriage and the family. She is married and the mother of five children.

She holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Milan and was awarded a PhD in Bioethics in 2001 from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. From 2002 to 2006, she served as a Scientific Expert on the National Bioethics Committee at the Prime Minister’s Office. Until 2017, she was an Adjunct Professor of Bioethics at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. Since 2005, she has been a Lecturer in Bioethics and the Philosophy of the Family at the Pontifical Theological Institute John Paul II (Lateran University). She is the author of around one hundred publications on the themes of human life, marriage and the family.
