Cesana Giovanni

Dr. Giovanni Carlo Cesana is the Head of Oncologic Surgery at the General and Oncologic Surgery Unit of Policlinico San Marco. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milano-Bicocca in 2001. In 2005, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Tumor Immunology at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. In 2006, he attended a master’s program in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in Germany. In 2007, he earned his specialization in General Surgery from the University of Milano-Bicocca.

In 2008, he completed two master’s programs—one in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in Germany, and another in Robotic Surgery at the ACOI School of Robotic Surgery in Grosseto.
Dr. Cesana conducts research in the fields of general, oncologic, and bariatric surgery. Since 2024, he has held the position of Assistant Professor (RTDA) at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.

Over the years, he has gained extensive experience and expertise in laparoscopic, metabolic, and bariatric surgery. He is particularly focused on the development of new techniques and materials, and on the impact of bariatric surgery on the metabolism of severely obese patients. He has received an internationally recognized award and has participated in numerous scientific collaborations.

He is a member of the Italian Society for the Surgery of Obesity (SICOB), the Italian Society of Surgery (SIC), and the Association of Italian Hospital Surgeons (ACOI). He is the author or co-author of approximately 45 articles and abstracts published in international journals, as well as around 30 book chapters. Throughout his career, he has participated as a speaker at more than 35 national and international congresses and conferences.
