Marina Massimi
Marina Massimi is an Italian-Brazilian psychologist, historian of psychology and university lecturer, and one of the leading scholars of the history of psychological thought in Latin America.
After graduating in Psychology from the University of Padua in 1979, she moved to Brazil, where she obtained a master’s degree (1985) and a PhD in Experimental Psychology (1989) from the University of São Paulo (USP). She also undertook postdoctoral research at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. For much of her academic career, she taught at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters in Ribeirão Preto, part of USP, rising to the rank of full professor and subsequently senior professor at the university’s Institute of Advanced Studies.
Her research focuses on the history of psychology, the relationships between culture, religion and subjectivity, and Luso-Brazilian intellectual traditions. Her most significant works include *Psychological Knowledge and Practices in Brazilian Colonial Culture* and *History of Psychological Knowledge in Brazilian Culture*.
The author of numerous essays and academic articles, she has received widespread academic recognition in Brazil and abroad, collaborating with leading research centres and participating in projects supported by the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (FAPESP).
