Who we are
Hamel Roseline
Roselyne Hamel is the sister of Jacques Hamel, the French priest murdered on 26 July 2016 in the church of Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray, in Normandy, whilst celebrating Mass, in a jihadist attack that deeply shocked France and the international Christian community. Following her brother’s death, Roselyne has become one of the leading advocates of the message of peace, dialogue and reconciliation associated with the memory of Father Hamel.
Roselyne Hamel has attracted international attention above all for the personal and spiritual journey she undertook following the attack: in 2017, she decided to meet the mother of one of the attackers, initiating a dialogue marked by shared grief and a desire to overcome hatred and revenge. This gesture has repeatedly been cited as an example of reconciliation and brotherhood.
