Mattia Bulla

Associate Professor at the University of Ferrara since 2025, he received his degree in Physics from the University of Milan in 2013 and his PhD from Queen’s University Belfast in 2016. He then continued his research activity in Stockholm, with a postdoctoral position at Stockholm University and a fellowship at the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, Nordita.

His research focuses on the explosive and transient Universe, with particular attention to supernova explosions and mergers of compact stars, events that can be observed through both electromagnetic radiation and gravitational waves. His research group uses advanced numerical simulations to model the electromagnetic signals produced by these extreme phenomena, also investigating their role in the formation of the heavy elements that we find on Earth today.

He also participates in international collaborations dedicated to the search of these astrophysical signals with some of the most advanced astronomical observatories and surveys, including the Zwicky Transient Facility and the Vera C. Rubin Observatory.
