Gianfranco Viesti

Gianfranco Viesti is a Full Professor of Applied Economics in the Department of Political Science at the Università di Bari.

He conducts research on issues relating to international, industrial and regional economics. He is a columnist for *Il Mattino* and *Il Messaggero*, and a member of the Editorial Board of *Il Mulino*. He is also the author of several books, including the most recent: *Per l’industrializzazione del Mezzogiorno* (edited by, Luiss Academy, 2017), *Viaggio in Italia* (edited by, Il Mulino, 2017) and *La laurea negata. Le politiche contro l’istruzione universitaria* (Laterza, 2018).

In the past, he has held various public offices, including serving on the Council of Economic Experts to Prime Minister Romano Prodi between 1997 and 1998.
