Saint Paul

‘”Servant of Jesus Christ, apostle by vocation” (Rm. 1,1) This exhibition is an introduction to the figure of Paul and his life, through pictures, covering a period from the origins of the Christian tradition to the baroque age, accompanied by brief notes taken from the Acts of the Apostles, from the letters and other significant literary texts. The first part collects together figurative testimonies (miniatures, paintings, reliefs) tied to the life of the saint and to the miracles he performed. It is split into three sections illustrating the period of his conversion, his travels and his martyrdom. A second part is dedicated to an “excursus” on human iconographic tradition, highlighting the cultural environment and literary and iconographic sources which influenced the portrayal of the figure of Paul and the changes this underwent through the centuries.’
