Sequi Ettore Francesco

Ettore Francesco Sequi is the Italian Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China since July 20th 2015.
Born in Oristano in 1956, he graduated in Political Sciences in Cagliari, specializing in Islamic Studies and multilateral negotiations.
He entered the Italian Foreign Service in 1985 and he has held a number of prestigious positions, in Italy and abroad, also for the European Union External Service.
He was Consul in Teheran, then counsellor at the Italian Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, deputy head of mission in Tirana and Ambassador of Italy in Kabul. He was appointed Special Envoy of the European Union for Afghanistan and Pakistan. He also went back to Tirana as Head of the EU Delegation in Albania.
In Rome, he was Chief of Staff of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – Hon. Federica Mogherini first and Hon. Paolo Gentiloni then.
Among other awards, he received the Giuseppe Dossetti Peace Award in 2012, the Spanish award of the order of Isabel the Catholic and the Gold Medal of the Order of Ghazi Mir Bacha Khan, for his “extremely high contribution to peace and security of Afghanistan”.
He is fluent in English, French, Spanish and has basic knowledge of Arab. Some of his interests are tennis, sailing, literature and history.
