Carmelo Papa, born in 1949 in Castiglione of Sicily, graduated with a degree in Nuclear Physics from the University of Catania. Papa has served, since April of 2016, as the CEO and Director General of STMicroelectronics Italia, the Italian subsidiary of the group STMicroelectronics N.V.
Papa began his professional career at International Computers Limited. In 1983, he joined SGS Microelettronica, one of the groups that subsequently gave rise to STMicroelectronics. Three years later, he was named as the Director of Marketing of products and of Customer Service for transistors and standard integrated circuits. In 2000, Papa was appointed Corporate Vice President, responsible for the sales and marketing of ST for the emerging markets. In 2005, Papa was called to direct the Group for Micro, Power, and Analogs, and from 2007 to December of 2011, he was head of the Industrial and Multisegment Sector. In January of 2012, he was appointed Director General of Industrial and Power Discrete Group.
Papa is currently in his second term as president of EPoSS (European Platform on Smart Systems), a European industrial venture focused on innovation in the fields of nanotechnology and integration of smart systems.
