Fasoli Ambrogio

Director Swiss Plasma Center (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) Lausanne, Chairman of the Academic Council of FuseNet, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Nuclear Fusion and Fellow of the American Physical Society, President of the European EUROfusion consortium.

After receiving his Ph.D. from EPFL with a thesis on chaos in plasmas, Prof. Fasoli moved to JET in 1993 to study the physics of glowing plasmas and participate in fusion power recording experiments. In 1998, he joined the Department of Physics at MIT as an Assistant Professor, and in 2001 he was appointed Assistant Professor at EPFL and Professeur Boursier at the Swiss National Science Foundation, leading the TCV tokamak and CRPP basic plasma physics groups. He became associate professor in 2005, executive director of CRPP in 2007, and full professor of physics at EPFL in 2008. From 2010 to 2014, he chaired the EPFL Physics Strategy Committee and was a member of the EPFL School of Science Directorate. Prof. Fasoli is director of the Swiss Plasma Center, chairman of the Academic Council of FuseNet, editor-in-chief of the journal Nuclear Fusion and Fellow of the American Physical Society, and president of the European consortium EUROfusion , which oversees the development of fusion in Europe, with the goal of energy production by 2050.
