The piano recital by Alexei Melnikov at Meeting 2015

Rimini, August 20th 2015 – On August 21st (at 21.45 Frecciarossa1000 Arena D3) Alexei Melnikov will perform a great event with his piano music. The young Russian pianist, acclaimed winner in 2014 of the sixth edition of the International Piano Competition Republic of San Marino, demonstrated a precocious talent and when he was five years he gained admission to the prestigious Gnessin Academy in Moscow. At that time he won the Carl Czerny Competition in Prague (2005) and the Festival of Romantic Music in Moscow (2006) and gained special scholarships from the Vladimir Spivakov Foundation and the New Names Foundation. He then started a professional career that has led him to perform with great success in Germany, Japan, France and Italy.
In September 2014, he won among general enthusiasm the First Prize at the prestigious piano competition in San Marino, also gaining the Audience Award and the Prize awarded by the Orchestra, as well as the one of the jury, “for his convincing mastery of technique and the variety of tonal range – reads the citation – fully adapted to the type of style of the presented concert”(the impervious third Concerto for piano and orchestra by Rachmaninov).

The concert, by the Association Musicale Allegro Vivo, is born from the proven cooperation between the Competition of San Marino and the Meeting. The program will open with Haydn Sonata in C minor: a twentieth of the fifty, written in 1771, on the threshold of the Sturm und Drang, at the time of the composer’s romantic crisis. Two Chopin Nocturnes, no. 1 and n. 3, will follow the Sonata. They express better than any other page the pressing subjective lyricism of the musician, as well as the Waltz op. 34 n. 3, full of verve and characterized by picturesque leaping appoggiaturas that earned him the nickname of “Waltzing Cat.” The program will finish with the Spanish Rhapsody by Liszt, the Sonata nb. 6 Prokofiev and the suite from Grieg’s Peer Gynt.
