“Thou shalt relinquish everything of thee Beloved most dearly”. Giuliano Dalmati’s exile at the end of the Second World War.

Curated by Associazione Nazionale Venezia Giulia and Dalmazia and Coordinamento Adriatico.

The protagonists of the show and the story of the Eastern Border are the 350,000 Italians who left their home in order to stay Italian. Families, men and women, the young and the old all had the strength to rebuild their lives and integrate themselves, after losing everything and knowing they will not be able to see their houses or friends again. The Eastern Border can be thought of as a space in which for centuries multiple frontiers, of political, cultural, and religious nature, have intertwined and overlapped. A place not only physical, as a part of the Adriatic and the outset between the Italian peninsula and the Balkans, but also that is the gap between Western and Eastern Europe in general. As the outer layer of rupture, the Eastern Border is certainly a classic node in the history of Italy.
