But why the photos? Because words flow directly<br \/>\nfrom the heart, but often they are not enough. As a human being, and as an intellectual, the<br \/>\nRimini Meeting is the deepest and most dearest experience to my heart. That\u2019s why I changed<br \/>\nthe biblical verse \u201ccome and see\u201d to <strong>\u201cgo and show\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p><\/div><span class=\"x-image e218578-e9 m4onm-3 m4onm-5\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meetingrimini.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/WF_Salone1.jpeg\" width=\"439\" height=\"400\" alt=\"Image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/span><div class=\"x-text x-content e218578-e10 m4onm-7 m4onm-8 m4onm-9 m4onm-a m4onm-b m4onm-c m4onm-d m4onm-e\">I arrived in <strong>Sharjah<\/strong>, the <strong>cultural capital of the United Arab <\/strong><strong>Emirates<\/strong> (Dubai is the economic capital and Abu Dhabi the political capital) to give a conference at the <strong>Book Fair<\/strong> held there every year.<\/div><div class=\"x-text x-content e218578-e11 m4onm-6 m4onm-7 m4onm-9 m4onm-a m4onm-b m4onm-c m4onm-d m4onm-f\"><strong>I was not surprised that it was visited by five million people <\/strong><strong>over the span of two weeks<\/strong>, nor that it was the largest book fair in the world, in terms of buying and selling. <strong>What <\/strong><strong>really surprised me were the volunteers<\/strong>. Yes, thousands of volunteers contribute to the organization of the Fair, <strong>just <\/strong><strong>like at the Rimini Meeting<\/strong>. These volunteers are there to welcome almost a thousand writers, artists, and intellectuals who participate in the cultural activities of the Book Fair.<\/div><span class=\"x-image e218578-e12 m4onm-3 m4onm-5\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meetingrimini.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/unnamed-1.jpg\" width=\"1170\" height=\"610\" alt=\"Image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/span><div class=\"x-text x-content e218578-e13 m4onm-9 m4onm-a m4onm-b m4onm-d m4onm-g\"><p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Credit: 2021 Sharjah International Book Fair<\/em><\/p><\/div><div class=\"x-text x-content e218578-e14 m4onm-8 m4onm-9 m4onm-a m4onm-b m4onm-c m4onm-d m4onm-e m4onm-h\">I asked someone why he volunteered to work at the Book Fair. Mahmoud, who works as director at the Ministry of Social Affairs, replied: \u201c<strong>It is an exceptional opportunity to be in close contact <\/strong><strong>with the greatest minds and the most beautiful hearts in the world<\/strong>. Even if I am in close contact with them merely to serve, it\u2019s still a great honor.\u201d<\/div><div class=\"x-text x-content e218578-e15 m4onm-8 m4onm-9 m4onm-a m4onm-b m4onm-c m4onm-d m4onm-e m4onm-h\">Everyone there proudly repeats the story of the Emir as a young man who\u2014before the oil boom\u2014pledged his dagger, ornaments, and true <strong>manly pride<\/strong>, to buy a book which he had no money to pay for it. The Emir always says that pride lies in knowledge, which is why he has dedicated the resources of his emirate to the education and dissemination of books and the arts.<\/div><div class=\"x-text x-content e218578-e16 m4onm-8 m4onm-9 m4onm-a m4onm-b m4onm-c m4onm-d m4onm-e m4onm-h\">With this group,<strong> I didn\u2019t need words to present the Rimini <\/strong><strong>Meeting<\/strong>. They did not hesitate for a moment to send the invitation to present this spiritual experience\u2014which has <strong>beauty as its origin and end<\/strong>\u2014to the millions of visitors of the Sharjah Book Fair<\/div><span class=\"x-image e218578-e17 m4onm-3 m4onm-5\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meetingrimini.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/WF_Salone2.jpeg\" width=\"405\" height=\"534\" alt=\"Image\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/span><div class=\"x-text x-content e218578-e18 m4onm-8 m4onm-9 m4onm-a m4onm-b m4onm-c m4onm-d m4onm-e m4onm-h\"><strong>They decided to dedicate a day of next year\u2019s Fair to the <\/strong><strong>Rimini Meeting<\/strong>.
