I’ve been playing volleyball since I was 14 years old, it was love at first sight! My first team was Messaggero Ravenna who in the 1990s dominated the international scene and cultivated so many young talents. I grew up there and I debuted in A1 series with the Ravenna team at age of 18. During my career I participated in 13 consecutive championships in the top Italian series and in numerous sporting events with the national team. I have touched the highest peak of my career in the 2005-2006 season when I won the European Championship and the Scudetto in a few months. I’ve been a dribbler for big club and I have been honored to play alongside some of the strongest athletes ever. I love volleyball and love my life. On March 8, 2005, I met my wife Alessia and also for her, as for volleyball, was love at the first sight. Our story has been going on for eight years now and we’ve been married for six now. The most beautiful thing we have is Carolina, our five year old daughter. We are a happy family and we live in Perugia where my wife was born.

In the spring of 2011, just after the agonistic season, an unbearable pain under the armpit and in the area of the shoulder blade began to grow in me incessantly. I did not know how to do, bad was strong, sharp and deep, so I turned to doctors. I found out that I was ill on the first of June 2011. Diagnosis: Diffused large B cell Hodgkin lymphoma, Fourth Stage.

That day my life stopped!

I went to the Department of Oncology Hematology at the Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Perugia and was followed by the staff of Professor Brunangelo Falini. I started chemotherapy on June 23 and had to endure for 7 long months before ending my therapeutic route with bone marrow transplantation. It was a nightmare and I had to fight like a damned one not to fall into depression or discomfort. The treatment is difficult and so that I do not give up I have funded all my resources. The family, the faith, and the desire to go back to play supported me, but I could not do anything without the help of the doctors. They informed me, comforted and motivated. They checked me centimeter by centimeter and infused drop by drops into my veins the drugs that destroyed the disease. Thanks to them and thanks to God, who guided them, today I’m here, I came back to life together with my loved ones, I can run with my little girl and I can look forward. I came back to being a volleyball player and thanks to their professionalism I managed to do it at the highest level.

On October 19, 2012, I have won the Club World Championship with my team and on December 30 of that same year we have reached another prestigious goal: the Coppa Italia.
On May 12, 2013, just one year after the medical examination for sport, I was the protagonist of MVP of the Final Scudetto won by my company. With the victory of the Italian Super Cup (September 2014) and the Coppa Italia of A2 (2015) we have achieved 5th success since my return to the competition.

In 2012 I founded the Giacomo Sintini Association, which collects funding for leukemie, lymphoma and myeloma research. In only 3 years of activity we have collected nearly 400,000 euros and we are not going to stop.
