In 1989 Marco Lucchini was one of the founders of Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus and he has been General Director since 1992. From 1990 to 2012 he was a member of the Board of Administrators the Fédération Européenne des Banques Alimentaires (FEBA) in Paris. From 1991 to 2011 he participated in the coordination of food aid for natural disasters or conflicts in Italy and abroad.
In 1997 he created the “National Food Collection Day”. In 2002 he also promoted the Good Samaritan Law for the distribution of food products for charitable purposes in Italy. Since 2003 he has promoted the development of Food Banks and National Food Collection Days in Brazil, Paraguay, Chile and Argentina.
In 2015 during Expo Milan 2015, he was project manager of the project “Foodsaving Expo” and represented CDO Opere Sociali in Cascina Triulza.
He is a member of the Consulta Ecclesiale Organizzazioni Socio-Assistenziali of the Italian Episcopal Conference; council member of Associazione Compagnia delle Opere – Opere Sociali and ASSIFERO (Associazione Italiana Fondazioni ed Enti di Erogazione); member of The National Committee for Food Security. He is a member of the Italian Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition and of the Alliance against Poverty in Italy.
He contributes to the activity of the Partnership Table of the Fund for European Aid to the most Deprived and the National Fund for the distribution of food products to the most deprived. He is registered in the Transparency Register, established and managed by the European Parliament and the European Commission; in particular, he participates to the activities and collaborates with DG Health and Food Safety and DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, European Commission.
He was also involved in the preparation and drafting of the study “Food Poverty Food Bank. Aiuti alimentari e inclusione sociale” (Rovati e Pesenti, 2015) and he contributed to the volume “Surplus food management against food waste. Il recupero delle eccedenze alimentari. Dalle parole ai fatti” carried out by DIG- Politecnico di Milano (2015). He contributed to the drafting of law “Provisions concerning the donation and redistribution of food and pharmaceutical products for charitable purposes and reducing waste”, the so-called Gadda Law.
Marco Lucchini graduated in Agricultural Sciences with a Master in Economics and Management of NGOs at the University of Pavia. In 1996 he was awarded with the Ambrogino d’Oro for the activity carried out by Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus.
