Maurizio Marchesini, born in Bologna in 1955, is an Italian entrepreneur and current Chairman of Marchesini Group S.p.A.. His entrepreneurial career began at the age of 22 alongside his father Massimo, who had started his own business in the Bologna Packaging Valley in 1974. In the years that followed, Marchesini transformed what was once a small artisan business into Marchesini Group S.p.A., a company that today employs 2,000 people and ranks among the leaders in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics packaging sector, thanks in part to partnerships, acquisitions and careful internationalisation.
Marchesini has held numerous prestigious leadership roles on the association and institutional scene. He was President of Unindustria Bologna from 2009 to 2011 and President of the Aldini Valeriani Foundation from 2011 to 2013. From 2012 to 2017, he chaired Confindustria Emilia-Romagna. He was Vice Chairman of SIMEST from 2015 to 2019.
He is currently Deputy Chairman of Confindustria, with responsibility for the Supply Chains and Medium-Sized Enterprises and also for Labour and Industrial Relations. From 2020 to 2024 he was a member of the General Council of Confindustria and of the Board of Directors of the Bologna Business School. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of UCIMA and has been President of Nomisma since 2023.
Maurizio Marchesini is President of FiD (Fare impresa in Dozza), a foundation established to create job opportunities within the Dozza Prison in Bologna. He is also Prior President of Monte del Matrimonio, a family welfare institute founded in Bologna.
In 2013, he was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro by the then President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano. In 2019, he received an honorary degree from the Alma Mater Studiorum in Automation Engineering.
