Buttiglione Rocco

Rocco Buttiglione has been Ordinary Professor for Philosophy of Politics at the University of Teramo, Philosophy of Politics and of Political Science at the St. Pius University of Rome and Philosophy with a particular consideration for the Philosophy of Politics and of Society at the International Academy of Philosophy in the Principality of Liechtenstein. He has taught at several other Universities and has been Prorector of the International Academy of Philosophy.
Buttiglione has been active also in politics as minister for european affairs and as minister for culture of the italian government, has been a member of the European Parliament and Vicepresident of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.
Buttiglione has received an honorary degree of the Catholic University in Lublin and of the Francisco Marroquín University in Ciudad de Guatemala, has been an advisor to the Papal Commission on Justice and Peace and is currently a member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences and of the Pontifical Academy of St.Thomas.
Buttiglione has written a dozen books and several hundreds papers on different topics of political philosophy, political science and christian social doctrine. Some of them have been translated in many languages. He is the author of a standard work on the thought of Karol Wojtyla ( The thought of the Man who became John Paul II) and has written a book in defense of Pope Francis against his critics with the title Friendly answers to the critics of Amoris Laetitia . The book is now available in Italian, Spanish and Polish.
He was a disciple and a friend of Don Luigi Giussani, is married to Maria Pia, has 4 daughters and 12 grandchildren. He is currently the director of the St. John Paul II Chair at the Pontifical Lateran University.
