Braschi Francesco

Born in Monza on February 7, 1967, after classical studies he joined the Milan Archbishop’s Seminary. He received the Bachelor of Theology in 1991 and was ordained Priest in 1992 by Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini. He then lived in Rome (1992-1996) attending the Patristic Institute Augustinianum and the Pontifical Oriental Institute; he obtained the Licence (1995) and the Diploma (2006) in Theology and Patriarchal Sciences.
From 1998 to 2011 he taught Christian Patrols and Antiquities at the Archbishop’s Seminary in Milan.
In November 2005 he defended the Patristic Institute Augustinianum’s PhD thesis in Theology and Patriarchal Sciences entitled: “Explanatio Psalmorum 12th by Ambrose: a unitary reading proposal”, obtaining the summa cum laude approval and the title of Doctor with the publication in the Studia Ephemeridis Augustinianum series (No. 105, Rome 2007).
In 2007 he was appointed Doctor of the Ambrosiana Library in Milan, where he served as Director of the Department of Ambrosian Studies (2007-2008) and Vice Secretary General (2008-2010). From the foundation (2008) he is director of the Slavic Class of the Ambrosian Academy and Academic of the Class of Ambrosian Studies.
He has participated as a speaker at congresses and symposiums in Oxford, Milan, Chicago, Baltimore, Brno, Sofia, Moscow, Istanbul, Niš (Serbia), Prague, St.Petersburg and Kiev.
He is a consultant member of the Congregation of Ambrosian Rite and Diocesan Commission for Ecumenism and Dialogue of the Diocese of Milan. In 2012 he received from the Holy See (Congregation for Oriental Churches) the Indulgence of Spirituality, which allows him to celebrate in the Byzantine Rite.
He is co-director of the Modern Russian Translation Project of the Omnia by S. Ambrogio, in collaboration with the Ambrosiana Library in Milan and the St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University.
He held (2011-2013) courses on Oriental and Patristic Spirituality at the Spirituality Studies Center of the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy (Milan).
From September 2012 he is a stable collaborator (since January 2014 president) of the “Christian Russia” Association, for the promotion of the knowledge of the Christian Russian tradition, to which is connected the Seriate School of Iconography (BG) for which he lectures theology of ‘Icon in summer courses since 2012.
Since November 1, 2012 he is Ordinary Doctor at the Life of the Ambrosian Library; From April 28, 2013 Aggregate Canon of the Chapel of the Basilica of St. Ambrose.
From the academic year 2014-2015 he is a Professor of Theology at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan.
His studies and interests range from the Greek and Latin patristics (in particular St. Ambrose) to the cultural relations between the Latin world and the Slavic world, to ecumenism and to the liturgy and spirituality of the Christian Orient.
