Istat president since february 2019 to march 2023, he held numerous official positions in the institute: he was part of the Istat Commission on the technical and methodological aspects of the Census of the population, of the Committee for the esteem of the absolute poverty and of the Istat Commissions on the measure of wealth beyond the Pil.
Before that he was a researcher at the Catholic University in Milan, and after a teacher of the University of Studies of Milano and of the University Bicocca.
He writes and wrote on numerous scientific journals and he works with newspapers like IlSole24Ore, Avvenire, L’eco di Bergamo, IlSussidiario.net; he is also author of numerous studies about demographical transformations, social exclusion, poverty, immigration and integration.
