Belardinelli Sergio

Sergio Belardinelli was born in Sassoferrato in 1952. He graduated in Philosophy from the University of Perugia in 1975 and was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung in Munich between 1979 and 1980. He held academic positions at the University of Trieste as lecturer in Philosophy of Work (1979-1984) and associate professor in Philosophy of History (1984-1989). Subsequently, he was associate professor at the University of Bologna (Forlì campus) from 1989 to 2000. Since 2000 he has been full professor of Sociology of Cultural and Communicative Processes at the University of Bologna, where he is currently also Alma Mater Professor. His main research interests focus on ethical-political problems connected with the development of complex societies, with particular attention to bioethics, the relationship between religion and politics, cultural identity and the plurality of cultures. He has been an international Visiting Professor at the Katholische Universitaet Eichstaett (at various times between 1988 and 1996) and at the Universidad Catolica Argentina (1998). He has lectured at numerous foreign universities and participated in national and international research programmes, including coordinating a project on ‘Kierche und Erziehung in Europa’ (2004-2005). He has served on important scientific and institutional committees, including the National Bioethics Committee (2002-2006) and various boards. He is a member of the editorial board of several academic journals. His awards include the Lucio Colletti Prize in 2010 for the volume L’altro Illuminismo and the Capri San Michele Prize in 2012 for Sillabario per la tarda modernità. He is a member of the Accademia Scientiarum et Artium Europea in Salzburg and a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Institute of Bologna.
