Bahrami Ramin

The Iranian pianist’s interpretative research is directed at the monumental keyboard production of Johann Sebastian Bach, which Bahrami approaches with the respect and cosmopolitan sensitivity with which his culture and training is imbued. The German, Russian, Turkish and, of course, Persian influences that characterised his childhood allow him to approach Bach’s music by enhancing its sense of universality.

Bahrami has performed at major piano festivals including ‘La Roque d’Anthéron’, the Uzés Festival, the ‘Piano aux Jacobins’ Festival in Toulose, the Tallin Baroque Music Festival in Estonia and the Beijing Piano Festival in China, Festivals in Brescia and Bergamo, Ravello Festival and at prestigious Italian venues such as La Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, etc.

Born in Tehran, he graduated with Piero Rattalino at the Conservatorio ‘G. Verdi’ in Milan, and furthered his studies at the Accademia Pianistica di Imola and with Wolfgang Bloser at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart. He specialised with Alexis Weissenberg, Charles Rosen, András Schiff, Robert Levin and Rosalyn Tureck.

Ramin Bahrami records exclusively for Decca-Universal. His CDs are best sellers and are always so successful with the public and critics that Corriere della Sera dedicated a special series to him for 13 consecutive weeks. He has entered the Gfk top 100 pop best-sellers list five times.

His recordings are regularly broadcast by major international broadcasters.

In 2016, he had the privilege of opening the chamber music season at Santa Cecilia in Rome and at the Beethoven Festival in Warsaw in collaboration with flutist Massimo Mercelli, with whom he recorded the flute and piano sonatas for Decca.

He was awarded the ‘Mozart Box’ prize for his passionate and enthralling work in the popularization of music, and was given the ‘Città di Piacenza-Giuseppe Verdi’ prize dedicated to the great protagonists of the musical scene, a prize awarded before him to Riccardo Muti, José Cura, Leo Nucci and Pier Luigi Pizzi. He also received honorary citizenship from the cities of Catania and Palermo and the seal from the University of Sassari.
