Who we are
“LA BOTTEGA DELL’OREFICE” – Di Karol Wojtyla. Regia di Andrea Carabelli. Con la scuola di teatro del Liceo Don Gnocchi di Carate Brianza
Free admission with reservation
On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II, the students of the Liceo Don C. Gnocchi present a play inspired by the works of Karol Wojtyła.
“The Jeweler’s Shop” is a meditation on the sacrament of marriage, performed as a rhapsodic drama. The protagonists of this work are three couples. Each one reflects on the meaning of love in an intimate confession addressed directly to the audience. There is never a realistic conversation or dialogue. Even when the characters are physically present on stage together, they always speak to us. There is no pretense—every word is meant solely for us who are listening. For this reason, there is no actual set: all the attention must be directed toward the relationship, the bond. There is one place that is mentioned by all the characters in turn: the jeweler’s shop. Here, each couple has made the vital decision to get married. It is a place that reflects who we truly are—an oracle of truth where truth is either discovered or rediscovered.
