FROM MEN OF HONOR TO MEN OF LOVE

Domenico Airoma, Public Prosecutor of Avellino; Valerio Montalbano, son of Giuseppe Montalbano, a doctor from Camporeale, killed on November 18, 1988, by order of Giovanni Brusca; Domenico Pace, inmate at Sulmona prison; Lia Sava, Attorney General of the Court of Appeals of Palermo; Paolo Tosoni, criminal lawyer. Concluding remarks by Fabio Pinelli, Vice President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary. Introduced by Salvatore Taormina, Cultural Editorial Staff of the Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples.

In ideal continuity with the 2022 exhibition on Rosario Livatino and the 2023 event on Don Giuseppe Puglisi, this meeting aims to compare the experiences of a family member of an innocent mafia victim and a man serving time for mafia crimes. Both protagonists, from opposing perspectives, have experienced the Christian encounter as a factor of paradoxical novelty. With reflections from professionals in the justice sector, the proposed dialogue intends to highlight the stages of a journey where the experienced drama can reveal itself as a factor of repentance and conversion, showing the Church's specific contribution in resisting structures of sin and mafia power, as recalled by Saint John Paul II in Agrigento and Pope Francis in Palermo.

INDIA: A NEW WORLD POWER?

Bosco Darsi, priest of the Diocese of Vijayawada, India; Vincenzo de Luca, Ambassador of Italy in India; Marco Masciaga, correspondent for Il Sole 24 Ore from New Delhi, India. Introduced by Gianluca Comin, founder of Comin&Partners.

India is experiencing major transformations today. While China's economic and demographic growth slows, India boasts the largest and youngest workforce. Under Narendra Modi's leadership, the country faces the challenge of strengthening its global position and maintaining the unity of a culturally and religiously fragmented society. India aims to act as a bridge between Western countries and developing ones, highlighted by collaboration with President Meloni and the invitation to the G7 in Borgo Egnazia. Despite these transformations, India remains a complex and multifaceted country yet to be fully understood.

EDUCATION IS NOT ACCUMULATION: NON-COGNITIVE SKILLS

In collaboration with the Parliamentary Intergroup for Subsidiarity
Giorgio de Rita, General Secretary of Censis; Francesco Filini, Member of Parliament for Fratelli d’Italia; Simona Malpezzi, Senator (PD); Raffaella Paita, Senator (Italia Viva); Stefano Patuanelli, M5S Senate Leader; Gabriele Toccafondi, Head of Iride Observatory; Giuseppe Valditara, Minister of Education and Merit. Introduced by Sandro Bicocchi, Director of PwC's Study Office and Vice President of the Foundation for Subsidiarity.

The approval of the law on Non-Cognitive Skills finally opens the possibility for recognized and state-promoted didactic experimentation of what many teachers already practice. Mental openness, collaboration, goal-oriented work, confidence, conscientiousness, openness to experience... these are skills that can be educated with dedicated programs increasingly in demand in the labor market. The approval of the law also introduces a new relationship between the school world and the labor market in view of this type of training.

“DIVINE PROVIDENCE”. THE SEARCH FOR THE ESSENTIAL IN MOUNTAINEERING

Patrick Gabarrou, French guide and mountaineer in dialogue with Roberto Gardino, co-founder of Compagnia della Cima.

Forty years after the opening of the historic route on the Grand Pilier d’Angle on Mont Blanc, the great mountaineer and guide Patrick Gabarrou will take us into the world of the "Mountain," ideally together in a rope team, amazed by the beauty of reality. Gabarrou reminds us that when we go to the mountains, it is beautiful to share everything, to be brothers who walk and climb desiring the absolute. His intervention is rooted in the path made at the Meeting with the exhibitions: "We are at the top! The summit of K2 and the faces of a people" in 2020 and "The Company of the Peak" in 2023.

The European elections are behind us, but questions about the future of Europe and Italy are still open. One of the major issues is economic development characterized by the single market, the euro governed by the European Central Bank, and the Next Generation EU investment plan known in Italy as the PNRR. Three key players discuss this in a confrontation with nothing taken for granted.

CULTURAL HERITAGE AND THE REVIVAL OF VILLAGES

Francesco Acquaroli, President of the Marche Region; Paolo Baldi, Mayor of Calascio;  Guido Castelli, Government Commissioner for Earthquake Repair and Reconstruction 2016; Cosimo Latronico, Regional Minister for Health, Personal Policies, and PNRR for the Basilicata Region; Simone Marchiori, Councillor for Housing Policies, Heritage, State Property, and Promotion of the Knowledge of Autonomy of the Autonomous Province of Trento; Alessandro Piana, President ad interim of the Liguria Region; Donatella Tesei, President of the Umbria Region. Introduced by Giuseppe Frangi, journalist for Vita.

What is the way to give a future to the many small villages that constitute a fundamental element of the Italian cultural and human landscape? An exhibition at the Meeting gathered ten exemplary cases from South to North of villages capable of unexpected paths that project them into a possible future, addressing demographic decline and often opening the doors to the constructive presence of immigrants. These stories are case studies made possible by a push from below and territorial alliances between associations, public administration, and private enterprises. How to support such virtuous dynamics? These are the questions posed to the prominent governors attending the meeting.

IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO EDUCATE

Sister Zeph, winner of the best teacher award in the world in 2023; Rose Busingye, nurse and head of the Kampala Meeting Point. Introduced by Matteo Severgnini, Principal of Regina Mundi School in Milan, head of Student Youth. "It takes a village to educate" is the title of the concluding meeting of this year's Meeting in Rimini, with the participation of Rose Busingye and Sister Zeph. This statement, often recalled by Pope Francis, highlights the importance of communion and community in education: the entire village is necessary to raise a person. Rose Busingye, a nurse working in the Ugandan slums, testifies how the encounter with Monsignor Luigi Giussani made her discover that she was loved, relaunching her relationship with hundreds of women affected by HIV. Women cursed by society were reborn in their encounter with the nurse and wanted to build generative places for their children and the children of Uganda, so they could know their infinite value. Sister Zeph, winner of the 2023 Global Teacher Prize, founded a school for poor children in her backyard in Pakistan at the age of 13, creating vital educational places. Two extraordinary stories showing how education is offering one's life and the essential that the human heart seeks, in a responsibility that requires sharing and the commitment of entire communities.

Paolo Ferrario, amministratore delegato E-work spa; Sonia Malaspina, Director of Institutional Relations, Communication, and Sustainability at Danone; Alberto Sportoletti, President of Rete Manager. Introduced and moderated by Roberto Corno, Labor Consultant and Coordinator of CdO Working Group

In the epochal change we are experiencing, work is also undergoing profound transformations, not only in terms of modalities (smart work, short work weeks, artificial intelligence, etc.) but also in terms of meaning and value for everyone: workers and entrepreneurs alike. The phenomena of burnout, the great resignation, presenteeism, the difficulty in hiring, engaging, retaining, and motivating people are symptoms of the same malaise stemming from work that no longer satisfies. To once again become an expressive value of the person, work must be re-conceived by both businesses and workers. The Good Work Manifesto, which we will present and share with three key figures of this new phase, aims to be an initial proposal in this direction.
